Kim Kardashian was left in tears in scenes this week as she tested positive for autoimmune condition lupus as well as rheumatoid arthritis.
Complaining of aching and swollen joints and fatigue, the reality star – who also suffers from autoimmune condition psoriasis – began to fear the worst as she worked full steam ahead on her career and law studies, while at the time she was also expecting her fourth child, son Psalm.
‘Lately, my wrists have started to hurt again, but it’s definitely a different feeling than before. I feel this, like, in my bones,’ she said. ‘I just am, like, freaking out. I have a baby on the way, I have law school. It just really can scare you when you start really thinking about how much this is gonna really change my life.’ However, after undergoing tests, the news was confirmed she had tested positive for lupus antibodies as well as rheumatoid arthritis – which affects the joints and causes pain, throbbing, swelling and stiffness – leaving the 38-year-old wiping away tears while being supported by her sisters.
In scenes aired in last night’s premiere of Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ 17th season, the KKW Beauty founder got a call from Dr Daniel Wallace with her results, after she was seen having an ultrasound on her wrist.
Kim spoke to her doctor while on camera
Your antibodies are positive for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis,’ Wallace explained as Kim sat in her walk-in-wardrobe. However, he confirmed that doesn’t mean she conclusively had the disease, as he added:
‘Sometimes you can get false positives in these screenings.’ As Kim was surrounded by her mother Kris Jenner and sisters Khloe Kardashian, 35, and Kylie Jenner, she admitted she was ‘freaking out’.
Thinking about the pain in my hands and what it could be is really scary and can get you in a scary head space.
I was so anxious to just figure out what was wrong #KUWTK— Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) September 9, 2019 Kylie, 22, was on hand to lend support her big sister, as she said: ‘You don’t know.
The scariest part, is you just don’t know.’ As Kim revealed she would be finding out the test results for sure later on, momager Kris, 63, urged the group to be ‘really positive until we get some results’.
What is lupus?
Lupus is a long-term autoimmune condition causing inflammation to the joints, skin and other organs. According to the NHS, there’s no cure, but symptoms can improve if treatment starts early.
Lupus symptoms: Joint pain and stiffness Extreme tiredness that will not go away no matter how much you rest Skin rashes – often over the nose and cheeks As well as the 3 main symptoms, you might also have:
Weight loss Swollen glands Sensitivity to light (causing rashes on uncovered skin) Poor circulation in fingers and toes (Raynaud’s)
You know, you really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen,’ Kim admitted. ‘So, for the next few days, it’s gonna be really hell…living, wondering what I have, what’s going on and how to fix this.’ It wasn’t revealed in the episode the outcome of her further tests, however, Kim was live-tweeting during the episode last night, interacting with fans watching the scenes as she highlighted more details.
